June - Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner

I don't know if calling this a fairy tale is exactly right...but it was kind of a fairy tale (and I mean that in the gentlest and most sincere way). In this particular version of the genre our heroine Cannie endures an awful split with her long-time loserish boyfriend Bruce. As if breaking up weren't hard enough, Cannie is forced to endure the indignity of reading about it all in her ex's magazine column. To complicate matters, the death of Bruce's father leads to an unexpected encounter and some unexpected consequences. Cannie bravely keeps her head above water through it all though, relying on her smarts, her wit and her resourcefulness to wring lemonade from lifes lemons. That things turn out well isn't a surprise, but the way she gets to happy ending land sure is! Celebrities, weight loss doctors, and a trip to Hollywood are all in the stars for Cannie. To her credit, Weiner weaves a warm and believable story that's told with compassion and gentle humor. Two thumbs up!
