I read Zombie, by Joyce Carol Oates for this month's Horror selection. It was weird-- somewhat reminiscent of Hannibal (the movie) as it is from the perspective of a serial killer. It's a slim book (part of the reason I picked it) and I was actually surprised by how long it took me to get used to the narrator's voice. He was (obviously) a sociopath so I'm glad I didn't immediately catch on to the way he spoke, but at the same time, once I finally DID "get it" the story was over...and there was little resolution.
Basically it chronicles Quentin (killer) and how he lives his daily life, and fantasizes about creating a zombie that will do all the things he wants it to do for him....ick. Gross Gross Gross.
Not for those who can't handle cussing and references to illicit sexual acts...or home-made lobotomies....
But I did it! :-)
