teen horror

I really want to read adult books, I do, but teen books are oh soooo appealing. So here are 2 teen horror reviews. I do have Poppy Brite novel checked out...but with a booktalk looming the firstweek of March I dont think I will get to it. So on to the teen titles.

Finding Daddy by Louise Plummer
Just before her sixteenth birthday, Mira finally tracks down the father she has never known. She lives with her mother and grandmother and they refuse to tell Mira anything about her father. She ends up finding her birth certificate and has her almost boyfriend look him up. His dad works for some govt agency where he can search for people on some database and it will tell you all their private info: address, email, etc. (farfetched!) So Mira emails him and calls him, but hangs up when he answers. Through email they scedule a meeting b/c (luckily) he will in town on Weds! Mira is exstatic about meeting him, but all those good feelings are overshadowed by the horrible events suddently happening at her house. Her dog is violently murdered and someone has been trying to break into her house repeatedly each night. Mira doent put 2 and 2 together until she goes to meet her dad at the airport and he stuffs her best friend in the trunk and hits her over the head with his gun. Ahhhh so this is why mommmy wouldnt tell me about my daddy...he's a psychopath! He found them through caller ID!! The end is sort of bloody and violent as the dad attacks the family murdering the grandma and nearly killing the mom. Need a cautionary tale about not talking to people on the internet! This is the one. Fast paced thin page turner perfect for readers who liked Gail Giles. High School only on this one.

The Marked by P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast

I am always looking for the next Twilight. So I read Vampire book after vampire book hoping, but always disappointed. When The Marked came in, I decided to check it out. This is book one in the House of Night series. Sixteen year old Zoey Redbird is "marked" at school one day. Suddenly she is about to become a Vampyre. Zoey is rushed right off to the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire. Zoey makess friends, makes enemies and develops a crush. Vampire school is not unlike a typical high school with cliques and bullies, hot guys and sex. Oh and Did you know Shania Twain, Nicole Kidman and William Shakespeare are/were vampyres?! Once I read that part of the book, I almost threw it in the trash. Not the next Twilight. I see the appeal for girls who like Vampire books b/c of Twilights popularity, but not really into the blood sucking. This is just a vampire high school that, well, sucks. For high school and up.
