"The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins

I wasn't sure if this book applies to this month's theme, but Mandy K. assured me it was valid.

In the future, there is Panem, a country that is what remains of America. The country is made up of 12 districts, some rich and some poverty stricken. Each year, to show their power over the citizens of Panem, the government chooses a boy and a girl from each district who will battle it out in a survival game where the goal is to kill everyone else before they kill you: the Hunger Games. Katniss is a 16 year old girl living with her little sister Prim and their widowed mother in district 12. This year, Prim is chosen for the Hunger Games, and Katniss volunteers in her place. But Katniss has always been an enduring survivor ever since her father died. Maybe she actually has a chance.

OMG. I seriously loved this book. Best book I've read in a long time. And I don’t like “sad-dystopia-society” books or sci-fi. This book had me gripped from page one, and I could not put it down. This is a fantastic story of survival, devotion, and even love(!), and has such rich, three dimensional characters…this book is sure to please everyone. Clichés withstanding, if you read one teen book this year, read this one.
5/5 stars
